Need help identifying 80s kid show?

Does anyone remember a show where real people were dressed up as animals and the show took place in their animal type village. there was a black man with a foreign accent who was dressed as a cheetah and there was also a woman who was dressed as a pink parrot. that is all i can remember of the specific characters. any help would be greatly appreciated!
