Should I Kick this guy the curb?

I met this guy in January 2008. We were talking and calling each other, including texting, When March rolled around, I sent him a text asking how he was doing....there was no response from him, so I decided to call, he did not answer his phone. So, I just quit maintaining contact with him. It's been about 5 months since I talked or texted him. Then one day lo and behold at the end he's comes texing me saying he misses me. I feel like this, I know people should receive a second chance, but his answer for not contacting me was he had to take care some things(no target point on why). I don't want to overreact, should I still give this guy a chance?
